We need your to help design the website and branding for Scotland’s 2018 Year of Young People!
Hello!
We are looking for young people to help design the branding and website for Scotland’s 2018 Year of Young People.
Background
The Year of Young People is the Scottish Government’s chosen theme for 2018. It will celebrate the very best of Scotland and its young people. Children in Scotland, Young Scot and the Scottish Government worked with a group of 18 young people in July 2015 to Co-design key recommendations for the year’s themes. For more information around the year’s themes you can find out more here http://www.youngscot.net/themes-for-2018-year-of-young-people/
Branding and Website Workshop
Now, in the spirit of 2018 Year of Young People, we want to bring together a group of young people to develop and approve a leading direction for the 2018 YOYP brand/logo and website.
We are holding a free co-creation workshop in Edinburgh, organised by The Gate (http://www.thegateinteractive.com/) and facilitated by Young Scot with support from Edinburgh College design students.
We are looking for young people aged 8-22 to take part in the ‘jam day’ and no creative experience is necessary – just bring your ideas and a willingness to share! This is your chance to help create an image for the 2018 celebrations, meet new people and learn new skills. Transport costs will be covered and lunch and snacks will be provided on the day.
Interested?
The ‘jam day’ is going to be held at The Gate Interactive, Edinburgh, on Saturday 3rd of December 2016 from 10am–4pm. If you are interested in this exciting opportunity then please send the following information through to codesign@young.scot:

On Saturday October 8th, 09:30-15:00, BBC Countryfile will be filming a Ramble around Holyrood Park in Edinburgh. Around 1000 walkers will take part, led by presenter Ellie Harrison. The film will be shown in November on BBC1 and will feature a family from one of our funded projects in Scotland (please note – this project has already been selected).
We would like to offer our local projects the chance to join in the Ramble. Entry is by ticket only and we have reserved some free tickets for children, young people and staff/parents/carers from our projects. Children in prams and children/young people using wheelchairs are welcome (the walk is fully accessible). Each person must have a ticket assigned, and responsibility for children/young people must be taken by a staff member from your project (with staff:chlid ratios appropriate to your standard project policy).
We would love to see you there! Please note again that tickets are to join the walk only. While you will be part of the crowd taking part in the film, and it should be a great experience that is being repeated across the UK that weekend, only the specific story from one already selected project will be featured on tv.
As well as showing your support for BBC Children in Need in Scotland, you will get a special edition BBC Countryfile beanie hat to commemorate the day.
You’ll find attached to this email the information pack and covering letter / pack message that set out what details are required to be completed and brought with you on the day – please read these carefully.
Please note that many walkers are also raising some funds for BBC CiN on the day. We would of course be delighted if you want to do this – and information is in the attached documents – but it is absolutely not a requirement to you taking part.
Please let us know asap if you would like tickets and how many you would like. Up to ten places are available per project but there is likely to be more demand than tickets so you may not be successful this time. Given that tickets are very much in demand, we would like you to make sure that you can definitely use any tickets you request and accept – we would like to avoid no-shows on the day.
Please reply by email to this address: scotland.cingrants@bbc.co.uk
We look forward to hearing from you!

Young Adult Carers from our Forum attended an NHS review day where they met with Paul Gray, Director General Health and Social Care and Chief Executive of the NHS Scotland.
The Forum had prepared three questions which they asked the Director, they also asked follow up questions on the topic of mental health waiting lists.
Lots of discussion and debate from everyone around the table, also there were representatives from Broomhouse Young Carers and the Broomhouse Centre, The Patients Council REH, Scottish Health Council and Larry’s Buddies throat cancer survivors.
The young adult carers have been invited to participate in further discussion with the NHS around their experiences of the mental health services.
Thank you to Lesley Baxter and NHS Lothian for the invitation, the young people found it really interesting to be part of the discussion today and to feel like their voices were heard.

Our family fun day this year was on Tuesday 19th July and it was a fantastic day. The weather was glorious and we had 122 people attending on the day.
Thank you to Edinburgh Leisure for the swimming and soft play in the morning at Royal Commonwealth Pool, also thank you to Lush Spa Edinburgh for their wonderful bath bomb making, smoothie bike, nails and massage. Everyone enjoyed a great afternoon in the Scottish Widows garden with their wonderful staff team, even more games from Edinburgh Leisure, cake decorating with Cake4Kids, Puffin the Balloon Man, reiki and an absolutely amazing BBQ.
Some of the parents said ‘ it was great getting together, nice seeing the kids with their friends and to meet the staff’ and ‘such a lovely day, would be lost without young carer support’.
Young carers told us; ‘I like that I can bring my family to share where I go and how much fun it is’ and ‘I really enjoyed the day with my mum’
