EYCP Groups

 5-9 & 10-12 Groups

The youngest young carers at EYCP are between the ages of 5 to 12. One of the ways of supporting young carers is through fortnightly groups. The activity programme enables the children to get to know one another, enjoy varies games, crafts and outings, including a chance to go on a residential holiday.

Helping to recognise young carers as young as this is often done by those around them, such as teachers, health staff, family and others. Children often worry about those in their family who are ill or have a disability, and need to be able to express their concerns and EYCP offers an opportunity for the very young to do that.

16+
Young adult carers now in transition to adulthood have been caring for the greater part of their lives often have limited access to opportunities that others take for granted. Although young adult carers may have physically left the parental home, the caring duty creates very strong links which still bind them

The 16+ group can help carers aged 16-25 years access information and support in areas including person development, entitlement to benefits and CV/interview skills, as well as accessing flexible opportunities to combine education, training, or employment with their caring role.

Girls Group
Edinburgh young carers project have been running a girls group for 15+ for the past two years. The aim of the group is to look at personal safety, sexual health and well-being. We have a strong core group of young women who have had the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of activities from developing a young women’s guide to healthy living in Edinburgh to a residential trip to London.

From having a 16+ group and a girls group for young carers up to 25yrs, its gives them the  opportunities for fun, meeting friends, trying new things, information and advice and support on a wide range of issues, where they can speak to staff openly and in confidence.
